Don’t let the name fool you; this is no ordinary rest stop. Of course, there are bathrooms and vending machines for weary travelers, but there’s also a Vietnam Veterans Memorial; a large, grassy field; and a relaxing, tree-lined walking path. It’s worth a stop any day of the week, even if you’re not traveling anywhere in particular.
Thomasville residents say Colonial Country Club is the spot for the best golf in the area. It’s a private club that features a pool, clay tennis courts, and a Gene Hamm-designed championship golf course. It’s members only, so it’s not a tourist stop, but if you were moving to the area, joining would be a great way to stay fit and to make new friends.
This park recently received brand new playground equipment, a baseball diamond with a shiny new scoreboard, and lots of space for blowing off steam. Stop by with your Frisbee, push your kids on the swings, or just find a sunny patch of grass and enjoy your favorite book. Doak Park is a real treasure for locals and visitors, alike.
